Frogs! In biblical plague proportions

The Safari was begged to go out by Frank so we picked up the camera and headed for Patch 1. Frank got ' Blued' at the corner. Not easy holding a rampaging 45kg (6 stone) dog and the camera at thee same time so apologies for the wobbles - he'd gone 'round the back' so his lead was pulling us over too!

A Sparrowhawk soared over the houses at thee bottom of the little field and we could here alarm calls from the small birds, except the male Greenfinch which didn't stop singing.
Once in the park we headed over to the  top pond where there were even more Frogs than earlier in thee week.
So how many did you manage to count in the melee?
Not much else in there apart from a lot of doggy disturbance and a singing Coal Tit.
On the way back at the corner of Magpie Wood - devoid of Magpies at this time of day - we spotted our first Lesser Celandine flowers of the year - yes, it's now definitely spring!
Where to next? Still in desperate need of some owls!
In the meantime let us know what has reached plague proportions in your outback.

Great set of Frog pics, Dave. No sign of any spawn over here yet.

Here's a little Handel to accompany your post:

For some reason, it's always sung by a male countertenor.

Wow, that is A LOT of frogs! Impressive shots that show all the eggs among them, too, making the pond more like soup than water. Never seen anything quite like that!

Great frog pics - reminds me of last year - but more so.
I must get up there and pinch a few pics myself !
Talking of firsts - I had my first bat of the year last night - a little Pip by the size of him - buzzed me for about 5 minutes - tried to get a shot but he was too quick for me - just my luck !

How are you getting on with the Water Voles ?

Cheers

Peter

Water voles have woken up Pete, feeding signs seen in their ditch last week, next survey will be around Easter. Good to know your bats are up n at em - hope it doesn't go too cold this week, will keep eye out for them here at Base Camp too.

Dave - Handel musta been down the rock gardens when he was a child for the inspiration to write that piece!

Cheers
